First week sales are in for 50 Cent‘s new album Animal Ambition: An Untamed Desire To Win. 50‘s first project released on his own with the help of Caroline for distribution managed to sell 40,188 copies in its first 7 days of release. This is 50‘s worst first week to date, just behind his last studio album — Before I Self Destruct which he released as an artist on Shady/Aftermath/Interscope Records.
Animal Ambition released just after the G-Unit reunion at Hot 97 Summer Jam 2014, and the new content he put out with the prominent rap group has already been getting a better critical reception than his latest solo studio effort.
During an interview with The Breakfast Club earlier this month, 50 Cent said he knew the album would be a flop. He sure was right.
“I can’t do good. In my head, what good is because of the success I’ve had in the past, that’s so much lower. I’ve done so much that having the music that makes people enjoy themselves, that actually means something at the moment is the goal. Like when you said, ‘Do you care whether you sell the record or not?’ I do care that it actually is within our culture. That it means something.”
“I was doing so much. It’s all more than I thought. I didn’t know that. You had to die, you gotta have a double CD, you gotta be Tupac and get killed to do ten million records. All Eyez On Me, that was the only time I ever saw it before. When it goes past ten to thirteen I was like, ‘What?’”
