New York radio will never be the same. Hot 97‘s Angie Martinez, most known for her 3-7 PM slot on the popular radio station has resigned. The Angie Martinez Show is no more and today will be her last show. The well-respected radio personality announced her resignation via Instagram. Angie Martinez represented Hot 97 for over 20 years.
Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Hot 97 issued a statement on Angie Martinez‘s departure:
WQHT HOT 97 FM confirms the departure of Angie Martinez,” Hot 97 said. “Angie has given over 20 years of service to the HOT 97 brand, where she exemplified professionalism and passion for music. We thank her deeply for her commitment to Hip Hop, radio, and broadcasting.”
Friends and colleagues also spoke out on Angie leaving:
“I have worked with Angie side by side for many years and there aren’t words to express how amazing she is. HOT 97 will always love her. Thank you Angie!” said program director EBro Darden.
It’s unknown what The Voice Of New York‘s next move is.
UPDATE: According to Bossip, Angie Martinez is headed to Hot 97‘s rival station Power 105. The legendary radio host an personality has already signed a contract and will bringing her talents to the station very soon. Stay tuned for more information.
