According to Twitter higher up @Ed, the most Tweeted about rapper for 2013 is Drake. Coming in second is Eminem who managed to crash the popular social networking site with the release of his “Rap God” single, third is Lil Wanye–because of seizure/death scare trending topics, and coming in at fourth is Kanye West.
Drake was mentioned in over 52,202,000 Tweets in 2013. His album Nothing Was The Same tallied in over 2,942,000 tweets. His popularity also spawned several huge trending topics including #DrakeTaughtMe, #DrakeTwitterPassword, and his album’s leak blew up Twitter with trends of #NothingWasTheSame. The leak also spawned popular trends for the song titles “Pound Cake“, “The Language“, and “Wu-Tang Forever“.
Eminem might not tweet from his own Twitter account, but that doesn’t stop him from dominating the social network with his presence. He spawned the biggest trending topic in all of Hip Hop with #RapGod this year, and he was mentioned in over 21,271,953 tweets, thanks to the release of The Marshall Mathers LP 2.
Death hoaxes, seizures, and a #PrayForWeezy hashtag that was tweeted over 101,000 times kept Lil Wayne afloat on social media. The release of his I Am Not A Human Being II album kept his name active on social media as well. (Twitter didn’t release the number of times Wayne was mentioned.)
Kanye West‘s “New Slaves” video debut that was projected on walls across the globe generated more than 500,000 tweets in May. He was mentioned on Twitter over 4.4 million times this year, thanks to the release of his highly talked about album Yeezus.
Other most talked about rappers on Twitter in 2013 include Jay Z, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar.
