Ice Cube‘s new movie Ride Along with Kevin Hart opened at #1 with $47.8 million in sales over the recent Martin Luther King Day four-day holiday, breaking previous records held by Cloverfield for movies that opened during the long weekend.

The J.J. Abrams monster movie managed to gross $46.1 million back in 2008 but was barely edged out this year by the new cop-buddy comedy about a security guard and his police officer brother-in-law who work a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta together. Coming in 2nd place this long weekend was another movie from Universal Studios The Nut Job starring Will Arnett, Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson. The animated flick managed to rake in $20.6 million.

A few days ago Ice Cube sat down with The Breakfast Club to talk about his movie. Check out the chat with Angela Yee, Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy here. His new album Everythang’s Corrupt is set to drop May 13th.

Kevin Hart‘s Let Me Explain DVD is out now and he also has another new film titled About Last Night coming soon. Look for it in theaters February 14th.
