After serving over 7 years behind bars, female rapper Remy Ma is free.
A lot has changed since Remy Ma was sentenced to an 8-year prison term over a shooting she got accused of causing in 2007 — including New York rap’s popularity, and the state of female rap. With artists like Nicki Minaj and Iggy Azalea reigning supreme, will Remy Ma be able to recapture the spark she had before doing her time? We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s good to know she’s free to make music once again and that she’ll have the opportunity.
Throughout her ups and downs, Papoose stayed most loyal to Remy Ma, and even married her while she was behind bars at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in 2008.
Remy Ma was due for release in 2015, but because of good behavior she got an early release.
Supporters of Remy Ma took to Instagram to show her support leading up to her release. Rappers such as Rick Ross, French Montana, Jadakiss, Chinx, Busta Rhymes, Troy Ave, and more all chimed in. [WATCH]
Remy Ma is already being booked for “Remy’s Home” concerts, with dates to be revealed in the near future.
Update: REVOLT reports that Remy Ma is still in prison because of a disciplinary problem on July 21st and there is no set timetable for the process or an updated release date.
Update 2: Remy Ma and Papoose both have conirfmed on their Instagram accounts that Remy has been released from prison.
